Running costs
Electricity cost is watts times hours divided by 1,000, times your unit rate. Use the rate in pence per kWh from your own bill rather than an average figure.
- Formula
- W x h ÷ 1,000 x p/kWh

A dehumidifier, a heated airer and a tumble dryer each turn electricity into dry washing at a different rate. Enter each one's wattage and hours, or a tumble dryer's kWh per cycle from its energy label, in the running-cost calculator to see them side by side.
Unit rates differ by supplier, tariff and region, and change over time, so this site never assumes one.
