Masterplug's DHU12W185UK is a 3 in 1 machine that dehumidifies, purifies and ionises, and it is built around a low power rating of 185 W. It suits someone drying laundry indoors on a regular basis who keeps an eye on the electricity meter, and who likes to manage appliances from a phone. The SmartEnergy app, which the listing says can monitor energy use and costs, is the detail that sets it apart.

In its favour

  • A dedicated laundry mode is one of six listed modes.
  • 185 W is a low rating, so long laundry sessions cost less to run.
  • App schedules let you start a drying session at a set time.

Good to know

  • No louvre or airflow direction feature is described.
  • The listing does not give a believable tank size.

Our take

Six modes for different jobs

The listing names laundry, wet weather, night, mould guard, air purify and custom modes. Mould guard runs an automated programme of humidity reduction using built-in sensors, while night mode is aimed at bedrooms. Auto defrost is included to keep performance steady when the room is cold, which matters for a compressor machine in an unheated spare room.

Rated extraction is 12 litres a day, enough for a medium sized room or a drying area rather than a large house.

Air quality features

An H13 HEPA filter is listed, alongside ionisation that releases negative ions. Masterplug names dust, pollen, pet dander, mould spores, bacteria and airborne viruses as targets. Because it can run as a purifier alone, the unit has a use in dry summer months too.

App, voice and energy monitoring

Control is by touch panel, voice through Alexa or Google Home, or the Masterplug SmartEnergy app. In the app you can set schedules, adjust display brightness, receive notifications and see energy consumption. Scheduling a drying session to start after the washing machine finishes is a practical use.

Gaps in the listing: no noise figure, no floor area, no louvre or adjustable airflow, and the tank field simply repeats the daily extraction figure, so the real bucket size is unknown. The weight is listed at 10.1 kg.

Against the Bosch Dry 1000 and Ariston Deos

The Bosch Dry 1000 has a similar low rating of 175 W, a stated 34 dB(A) and its own laundry mode, but extracts 10 litres a day and has no app. The Ariston Deos 21S NET offers app scheduling and a Super Laundry function for a larger 52 square metre area, but its HEPA filter only works in a separate mode. The Masterplug blends smart control and filtration at a lower draw.

Verdict

The Masterplug 12L is a sensible pick for regular indoor drying in a medium room, especially if tracking energy use in an app appeals. If a stated low noise level matters more than smart features, consider the Bosch Dry 1000, and for a larger home with more extraction, the Ariston Deos 21S NET is the step up.
