Protimeter's Aquant is a pinless moisture meter for building surveys, flood and fire restoration and flooring checks. It reads through the surface rather than into it, so you can sweep across a decorated wall, a tiled floor or a kitchen unit base without leaving marks. The newer BLD5770 version adds Bluetooth logging, which turns quick checks into a record you can share.

Our take
How a pinless reading works here
The listing states detection up to 20 mm below the surface without damaging walls, floors or other materials. In practice a pinless meter is best used comparatively: take a reading on an area you know is dry, then move across the suspect patch and watch for the numbers to climb. That makes it quick to find the edges of a damp area before you decide whether it is a leak, condensation or something rising from below.
Protimeter lists wood, drywall, concrete and fibreglass among the materials it works on.
Logging with Protimeter Connect
Bluetooth pairs the meter with the Protimeter Connect app, which logs readings with time and date stamps and lets you view and export them. For anyone monitoring a wall as it dries after a leak, that is more reliable than scribbling numbers on a notepad, and it gives a landlord or insurer something concrete to look at.
Battery life, calibration and build
Protimeter says the Aquant runs up to three times longer than earlier models on its alkaline batteries, which are included. It carries out automatic calibration checks, and you can also run a user field calibration. The display is a backlit LCD for dim lofts and cupboards, and the housing is described as rugged enough for site work. The listed weight is 181 g, so it sits easily in a jacket pocket.
Where it falls short
Being pinless only, it cannot give the direct moisture content figure that pins pushed into timber provide. The listing also does not give a numeric scale. The Tramex MEX5 answers both points with two depths and optional pin probes, while the simpler Protimeter Mini gives pin readings with a traffic light display.
Verdict
The Aquant suits surveyors, letting agents and careful homeowners who want fast, mark free scanning and a logged record. If you need surface and deep readings plus dew point, look at the Tramex MEX5. If you mainly check timber and plaster with pins, the Protimeter Mini is the more direct tool.
