The Protimeter Mini is a general purpose pin meter for people who want a straight answer: is this wall, skirting or window frame dry, borderline or damp? It does not try to map, log or calculate dew point. Its appeal is a clear colour coded LED display from a brand that surveyors already use, plus a calibration device in the box so you can trust the reading.

In its favour
- Green, yellow and red LEDs make dry, borderline and damp readings easy to read.
- Calibration device is included so you can check the meter is reading correctly.
- Extension pin probe helps in awkward spots such as skirting and under stairs.
Good to know
- Pin probes leave small holes, so it is less suited to finished decorative surfaces.
- No app, data logging or stated measuring depth in the listing.
Our take
Reading the traffic light display
The display shows a moisture content value along with a classification in three colours: green for dry, yellow for borderline and red for damp. That suits someone who does not want to interpret raw percentages on different materials. Push the built-in pins into timber or plaster, and the LEDs tell you which band you are in.
What comes in the box
Protimeter includes a calibration device for checking the instrument is reading properly, which is rare at this level and useful if the meter lives in a van or garage between jobs. An extension pin probe is also supplied, so you can reach behind radiators, along the bottom of skirting and into awkward corners where the body of the meter will not fit.
The specs list a 9 V alkaline battery, an operating humidity range up to 90% RH and a listed weight of 408 g.
Limits of a pin meter
Pins have to go into the material, so they leave small holes. That is fine on timber, bare plaster or a wall you are about to redecorate, but less welcome on a finished feature wall. Masonry readings from any pin meter are relative, so the Mini is best used to compare a suspect area against a dry one. The listing does not mention a measuring depth, an app or data storage.
Alternatives on this site
The Protimeter Mini C BLD2001 is a close sibling with a stated 6 to 30% range, but its listing gives far less detail. For mark free scanning, the Protimeter Aquant BLD5770 reads up to 20 mm deep without pins and logs results to an app. The Temirup WM700D combines both pin and pinless heads in one kit.
Verdict
Pick the Protimeter Mini if you want an easy, trusted pin meter for checking timber and plaster around the house, with a calibration check included. Choose the Protimeter Aquant instead for mark free scanning and logging, or the Temirup WM700D if you want pin and pinless modes together.
