The DD1 Classic MK6 is EcoAir's compact desiccant for cold rooms, garages, boats and holiday homes where heating is off for long periods. It works across an ambient range of 1 to 40 °C and weighs 6 kg. What marks it out is the ECO E7S system, which EcoAir says switches between full power, economy and standby automatically to cut energy use by as much as 40 percent.

Our take
Cold weather extraction
EcoAir quotes up to 7.5 litres of moisture a day at temperatures as low as 1 °C, with an ideal floor area of up to 60 square metres. As a desiccant machine it suits unheated spaces where condensation collects on cold surfaces, such as a garage with tools or a cellar with stored boxes.
In a heated living room, a compressor unit would extract more, so the DD1 Classic is best kept for cold or intermittently heated spaces.
Energy management and overdry protection
ECO E7S changes power level based on conditions, and overdry protection pauses dehumidification when the air becomes too dry. Both features cut running hours, important for a desiccant unit rated at 300 W that may run through the winter. Auto restart after a power cut is listed, so a tripped circuit in an outbuilding does not leave the space unprotected.
Features and maintenance
A built-in ioniser and a silver filter that kills bacteria on contact handle air quality. The laundry mode has turbo and saving settings, there is a super quiet mode at 34 dB(A), and a 2, 4 or 8 hour timer. A 3D louvre directs airflow, and a continuous drainage hose and manual are included.
The tank size is not clearly stated, with the specification table repeating the daily extraction figure, so check it before relying on the bucket for long periods.
How it stacks up
The EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 is the stripped down version with a rotary dial, sharing the 7.5 litre rating and 34 dBA quiet mode but without auto restart. The Meaco DD8L is a desiccant alternative for unheated rooms with self restart. The DD1 Classic offers the most automation of the three.
Verdict
Choose the DD1 Classic MK6 for a garage, cellar, boat or cold bedroom where quiet running and automatic restart matter. If you only need basic humidistat control, the EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 is simpler, and for a very damp space needing more extraction, the De'Longhi DD230P with its lift pump is the heavier duty option.
